From a falling ball to a speeding bus — how do we describe motion exactly, using reference points, distance, displacement, velocity, acceleration, graphs and equations?
Everything around us is moving. To study motion like scientists, we start with the simplest case — a straight line — and describe it with numbers, graphs and equations, then extend the idea to motion in a circle. This chapter builds the whole language of motion, step by step.
Remember from before:पहले जो सीखा था:
In earlier grades you met distance, time and speed.
From Chapter 1: to study something complex, scientists first make an idealised, simplified version of it.Chapter
Basic motion types you have heard of: linear (straight line), circular, and oscillatory.
1. Motion in a Straight Line [NCERT p.48–51]
Goal: After this section you can fix a reference point, describe an object's position, and tell distance apart from displacement.
Sitting in a moving train, the electric pole outside seems to "run backward", yet your bag on the seat stays still. Whether something is moving depends on what you compare it against — the reference point.
Describing positionPosition बताना
To describe an object's position, we fix a point as the reference point (origin, O). The position needs both the distance from O and the direction. In a straight line there are only two directions, so we use signs: right of O is positive (+), left of O is negative (−). If the position changes with time, the object is in motion; if it does not change, the object is at rest.[NCERT p.49]किसी object की position बताने के लिए हम एक point को reference point (origin, O) मान लेते हैं। [NCERT p.49]
Figure 4.1 — Reference point O (origin) and the athlete's positions B and A on a straight line. Adapted from NCERT Fig. 4.3.चित्र 4.1 — reference point O (origin) और सीधी रेखा पर athlete की positions B और A। NCERT Fig. 4.3 से adapted।
Distance travelled vs displacementDistance travelled बनाम displacement
An athlete starts at O, runs to A (100 m), then runs back to B (60 m back). The total distance travelled = OA + AB = 100 + 60 = 160 m. But the displacement — the net change in position from start to finish — is only OB = 40 m in the positive direction. Distance is a scalar (only a magnitude); displacement is a vector (magnitude + direction). The SI unit of both is the metre (m).[NCERT p.50–51]एक athlete O से शुरू होकर A (100 m) तक दौड़ता है, फिर वापस B तक (60 m पीछे)। Total distance travelled = OA + AB = 100 + 60 = 160 m। [NCERT p.50–51]
Key rule: the magnitude of displacement is less than or equal to the total distance travelled — never more. They are equal only when the object moves in one direction without ever turning back.[NCERT p.51]मुख्य नियम: displacement का magnitude total distance travelled से कम या बराबर होता है — कभी ज़्यादा नहीं। [NCERT p.51]
Instant vs time interval: an instant is a single clock reading (a moment). A time interval is the gap between two instants (two clock readings). Distance and displacement are measured over an interval.[NCERT p.50]Instant बनाम time interval:instant घड़ी की एक ही reading है (एक पल)। [NCERT p.50]

You now knowअब आप जानते हो
Position needs a reference point + distance + direction; changing position ⇒ motion.Position के लिए reference point + distance + direction चाहिए; position बदले ⇒ motion।
Distance (scalar) ≥ magnitude of displacement (vector), always.
2. Speed and Velocity [NCERT p.52–53]
Goal: After this section you can compute average speed and average velocity, and tell uniform from non-uniform motion.
Two friends reach school in 10 minutes. One walked straight; the other zig-zagged through lanes. Same time — but the zig-zag friend covered more path, so their speed was higher, while their straight-line progress toward school (velocity) can be similar.
Average speed = total distance travelled ÷ time interval. Since distance has no direction, speed is a scalar. If an object covers equal distances in equal intervals of time, it is in uniform motion (constant speed); if it covers unequal distances in equal times, it is in non-uniform motion (speed increasing or decreasing).[NCERT p.52]Average speed = total distance travelled ÷ time interval। [NCERT p.52]
average speed = total distance / time interval
India's scientific contributions — an ancient speed problemIndia The idea that speed = distance ÷ time is very old in India (the Aryabhatiya, 5th century CE). This problem is from the Ganitakaumudi (14th century CE): two postmen start walking towards each other from 210 yojanas apart; one covers 9 yojanas/day, the other 5 yojanas/day. Together they cover 9 + 5 = 14 yojanas each day, so they meet after 210 ÷ 14 = 15 days.[NCERT p.52]यह विचार कि speed = distance ÷ time, India में बहुत पुराना है (Aryabhatiya, 5वीं सदी CE)। [NCERT p.52]
Average velocity = displacement ÷ time interval. Because displacement has direction, velocity is a vector — its direction is the same as the displacement, shown by a + or − sign in straight-line motion. Both speed and velocity have the SI unit metre per second (m s−1); km h−1 is also common. Velocity is the rate of change of position with time.[NCERT p.53]Average velocity = displacement ÷ time interval। [NCERT p.53]
vav = displacement (s) / time (t)
Worked example (NCERT 4.2) — Sarang in the poolहल किया उदाहरण (NCERT 4.2) — pool में Sarang
Sarang swims 25 m to the far end of a pool and 25 m back, taking 50 s. Total distance = 50 m, displacement = 0 m (he is back at the start). So average speed = 50/50 = 1 m s−1, but average velocity = 0/50 = 0 m s−1.[NCERT p.53]Sarang pool [NCERT p.53]

Speed uses distance; velocity uses displacement (and has direction).Speed में distance; velocity में displacement (और direction भी)।

3. Acceleration [NCERT p.54–56]
Goal: After this section you can define acceleration, find it from a change in velocity, and understand acceleration due to gravity.
When a bus suddenly starts, you jerk backward; when it brakes, you lurch forward. That jolt is your body feeling a change in velocity — and how quickly velocity changes is called acceleration.
Average acceleration = change in velocity ÷ time interval. If velocity goes from an initial value u to a final value v in time t:[NCERT p.54]Average acceleration = velocity का change ÷ time interval।
a = (v − u) / t

If the speed is decreasing (braking), acceleration points opposite (−) — sometimes called retardation.[NCERT p.54]SI unit: m s−2। [NCERT p.54]

Later it brakes from 15 m s−1 to 0 in 5 s: a = (0 − 15)/5 = −3 m s−2 (the minus sign means it is slowing down).[NCERT p.55]एक bus 36 km h−1 (= 10 m s−1) से 54 km h−1 (= 15 m s−1) तक 10 s में तेज़ होती है: a = (15 − 10)/10 = 0.5 m s−2 (motion के साथ)। [NCERT p.55]
Acceleration due to gravity (g)Gravity के कारण acceleration (g)
When an object is dropped, it falls straight down and speeds up. NCERT's Example 4.4 records its velocity each second: 9.8, 19.6, 29.4, 39.2 m s−1. In every 1-second interval the velocity rises by 9.8 m s−1, so a = 9.8/1 = 9.8 m s−2 — the same in every interval. This constant downward acceleration caused by the Earth's pull is the acceleration due to gravity, g ≈ 9.8 m s−2.[NCERT p.55–56]जब कोई object छोड़ा जाता है, वह सीधा नीचे गिरता है और तेज़ होता जाता है। [NCERT p.55–56]
Fast is not the same as accelerating. An object can move very fast and still have zero acceleration. A bus on a straight highway at a constant 90 km h−1 has zero acceleration — because its velocity is not changing.[NCERT p.55]तेज़ होना और accelerate होना एक बात नहीं। [NCERT p.55]

4. Graphs of Motion [NCERT p.56–63]
Goal: After this section you can read position-time and velocity-time graphs, and get velocity, acceleration and displacement from them.Goal: इस section के बाद आप position-time और velocity-time graphs पढ़ पाओगे, और उनसे velocity, acceleration तथा displacement निकाल पाओगे।
A graph is like a photo of a journey. Instead of words, one glance shows whether an object is standing still, cruising steadily, or speeding up. But remember — a motion graph is not a route map; it shows how position (or velocity) changes with time, not the path on the ground.
To plot a graph we mark time on the X-axis and the quantity (position or velocity) on the Y-axis, choose a convenient scale, plot each data point, and join the points. For a vehicle moving 20 m every second (0, 20, 40, 60… m at 0, 1, 2, 3… s), the position-time points fall on a straight line.[NCERT p.56–58]Graph बनाने के लिए हम time को X-axis पर और quantity (position या velocity) को Y-axis पर रखते हैं, एक सुविधाजनक scale चुनते हैं, हर data point plot करते हैं, और points को जोड़ते हैं। [NCERT p.56–58]
Position-time graphs — the slope is the velocityPosition-time graphs — slope ही velocity है
Figure 4.3 — Position-time graphs. (a) A straight slanted line means constant velocity; the steeper the line, the greater the velocity. (b) A curve means the velocity is changing (accelerated motion). The slope of the line = velocity. Adapted from NCERT Figs. 4.11–4.14.चित्र 4.3 — position-time graphs। (a) सीधी तिरछी line = constant velocity; line जितनी steep, velocity उतनी ज़्यादा। (b) curve = बदलती velocity (accelerated motion)। line का slope = velocity। NCERT Figs. 4.11–4.14 से adapted।
On a position-time graph, take two points A and B. The change in position (BC) divided by the change in time (CA) is the slope — and this slope equals the average velocity. A horizontal line (parallel to the time axis) means position is not changing — the object is at rest. Of two lines, the steeper one has the higher velocity.[NCERT p.59–60]Position-time graph पर दो points A और B लो। [NCERT p.59–60]

Notice: doubling the speed makes the stopping distance four times longer.[NCERT p.64]Brakes से a = −4 m s−2; car रुक जाती है (v = 0)। v² = u² + 2as ⇒ 0 = u² − 8s ⇒ s = u²/8। (i) u = 54 km h−1 = 15 m s−1 → s = 225/8 = 28.1 m। (ii) u = 108 km h−1 = 30 m s−1 → s = 900/8 = 112.5 m। [NCERT p.64]
Bridging science and society — keep a safe distanceScience A moving vehicle needs distance to stop. That distance grows with the vehicle's speed, and also depends on the road (wet or dry), the brakes, and the driver's reaction time. This is exactly why we keep a safe gap from the vehicle ahead. New vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology, being developed in India and elsewhere, lets vehicles exchange signals to warn drivers of possible collisions.[NCERT p.65]चलती गाड़ी को रुकने के लिए distance चाहिए। [NCERT p.65]

Why is the direction always changing? Picture an athlete running around a square track — they turn 4 times per round. On a hexagon, 6 turns. Keep adding sides and the turns become more and more frequent; in the limit the track becomes a circle and the direction changes continuously. The velocity at any point is along the tangent to the circle. Q1. Father goes from home to a shop 250 m away, comes back for a forgotten bag, goes to the shop again, and returns home. Total distance and displacement?
The path is home→shop→home→shop→home = 4 legs of 250 m. Total distance = 4 × 250 = 1000 m. He ends at home (the start), so displacement = 0 m. Total distance = 4 × 250 = 1000 m।
Q2. A student runs from the ground floor to the 4th floor to collect a book, then down to the 2nd floor. Each floor is 3 m. Find (i) total vertical distance, (ii) displacement. निकालो (i) कुल vertical distance, (ii) displacement।
Up: ground→4th = 4 × 3 = 12 m. Down: 4th→2nd = 2 × 3 = 6 m. (i) Total distance = 12 + 6 = 18 m. Final position is the 2nd floor, 2 × 3 = 6 m above the start, so (ii) displacement = 6 m upward.ऊपर: ground→4th = 4 × 3 = 12 m। नीचे: 4th→2nd = 2 × 3 = 6 m। (i) Total distance = 12 + 6 = 18 m।
Q3. A girl's scooter speedometer reads a constant value. Can the scooter still be accelerating? How?
Yes. The speedometer shows only the speed (magnitude). If she rides around a bend, the direction of her velocity changes even though the speed is constant — so the velocity changes, which means the scooter is accelerating (as in uniform circular motion).[NCERT p.66–67]हाँ। [NCERT p.66–67]
Q4. A car starts from rest and reaches 24 m s⁻¹ in 6 s. Find the average acceleration and the distance in these 6 s.
u = 0, v = 24 m s⁻¹, t = 6 s. a = (v − u)/t = 24/6 = 4 m s⁻². Distance s = ½(u + v)t = ½ × 24 × 6 = 72 m (or s = ut + ½at² = 0 + ½ × 4 × 36 = 72 m).u = 0, v = 24 m s⁻¹, t = 6 s। a = (v − u)/t = 24/6 = 4 m s⁻²। Distance s = ½(u + v)t = ½ × 24 × 6 = 72 m (या s = ut + ½at² = 0 + ½ × 4 × 36 = 72 m)।
Q5. A motorbike with initial velocity 28 m s⁻¹ and constant acceleration stops after 98 m. Find the acceleration and the time taken.28 m s⁻¹ initial velocity
u = 28, v = 0, s = 98 m. Using v² = u² + 2as: 0 = 28² + 2a(98) ⇒ 0 = 784 + 196a ⇒ a = −4 m s⁻² (minus = slowing down). Time: t = (v − u)/a = (0 − 28)/(−4) = 7 s.u = 28, v = 0, s = 98 m। v² = u² + 2as से: 0 = 28² + 2a(98) ⇒ 0 = 784 + 196a ⇒ a = −4 m s⁻² (minus = धीमा होना)। Time: t = (v − u)/a = (0 − 28)/(−4) = 7 s।
Q6. Position-time graphs of objects A and B (parallel tracks, same direction, Fig. 4.27). Do A and B ever have equal velocity?A और B के position-time graphs (parallel tracks, same direction, Fig. 4.27)।
On a position-time graph, velocity = slope. Two objects have equal velocity at the instant their graph lines are equally steep (parallel tangents). So if one line is straight and the other is a curve, they have equal velocity at the moment the curve's slope matches the straight line's slope — read that point off Fig. 4.27. If the two lines are never equally steep, their velocities are never equal.Position-time graph पर velocity = slope।
Q7. Two objects A and B move in a straight line from 0–10 s with the same initial and final positions (Fig. 4.28). Choose the correct option(s).दो objects A और B 0–10 s में सीधी line में चलते हैं, same initial और final positions के साथ (Fig. 4.28)।
(i) is correct — average velocity = displacement ÷ time; since both have the same start and end (same displacement) in the same 10 s, their average velocities are equal. Average speed depends on the total path length, which is generally different for A and B (whichever line is longer/steeper in parts covers more distance and has the higher average speed), so options based on "equal speed" are not automatically true.(i) सही है — average velocity = displacement ÷ time; दोनों की same start और end (same displacement) same 10 s में हैं, इसलिए उनकी average velocities बराबर।
Q8. A truck at 54 km h⁻¹ slows to 36 km h⁻¹ in 36 s (constant acceleration). Distance travelled during this time?
u = 54 km h⁻¹ = 15 m s⁻¹, v = 36 km h⁻¹ = 10 m s⁻¹, t = 36 s. Distance s = ½(u + v)t = ½ × (15 + 10) × 36 = ½ × 25 × 36 = 450 m.u = 54 km h⁻¹ = 15 m s⁻¹, v = 36 km h⁻¹ = 10 m s⁻¹, t = 36 s। Distance s = ½(u + v)t = ½ × (15 + 10) × 36 = ½ × 25 × 36 = 450 m।
Q9. A car starts from rest, accelerates uniformly to 20 m s⁻¹ in 5 s, travels at 20 m s⁻¹ for 10 s, then brakes uniformly to a stop in 6 s. Total distance?
Q10. A bus at 36 km h⁻¹ sees an obstacle 30 m ahead. The driver reacts in 0.5 s, then brakes at 2.5 m s⁻². Will the bus stop before the obstacle?36 km h⁻¹ की bus को 30 m आगे रुकावट दिखती है।
u = 36 km h⁻¹ = 10 m s⁻¹. Reaction distance (before braking) = 10 × 0.5 = 5 m. Braking distance: v² = u² + 2as ⇒ 0 = 100 + 2(−2.5)s ⇒ s = 100/5 = 20 m. Total stopping distance = 5 + 20 = 25 m, which is less than 30 m — yes, the bus stops with about 5 m to spare.u = 36 km h⁻¹ = 10 m s⁻¹। Reaction distance (brake से पहले) = 10 × 0.5 = 5 m। Braking distance: v² = u² + 2as ⇒ 0 = 100 + 2(−2.5)s ⇒ s = 100/5 = 20 m। कुल stopping distance = 5 + 20 = 25 m, जो 30 m से कम है — हाँ, bus लगभग 5 m पहले ही रुक जाती है।
Q11. "The Earth moves around the Sun." Can an object kept on the Earth be considered at rest?"Earth, Sun के चारों ओर घूमती है।"
Motion is relative — it depends on the reference point. With respect to the Earth's surface, an object on the ground does not change position, so it is at rest. With respect to the Sun, it moves along with the Earth. Both statements are correct in their own frames of reference.[NCERT p.49]Motion [NCERT p.49]
Q12. A cyclist's velocity-time graph (0–120 s, Fig. 4.30). Shade the displacement areas (constant-velocity part and slowing-down part), and find the displacement and average acceleration over 120 s.एक cyclist का velocity-time graph (0–120 s, Fig. 4.30)।
Method: the displacement = total area between the v-t line and the time axis — split it into rectangles (constant-velocity parts) and triangles (accelerating/decelerating parts) and add them, reading the velocity and time values off Fig. 4.30. The average acceleration over 120 s = (final velocity − initial velocity) ÷ 120 s. Shade the constant-velocity stretch as a rectangle and the slowing-down stretch as a triangle. 120 s में average acceleration = (final velocity − initial velocity) ÷ 120 s।
Q13. A runner's velocity-time graph (Fig. 4.31). Estimate the distance run.
The distance = the area under the velocity-time graph. Break the shape into rectangles and triangles, compute each area (velocity × time, or ½ × base × height), and add — using the values marked on Fig. 4.31 (keep units consistent: km h⁻¹ with hours gives kilometres).Distance = velocity-time graph के नीचे का area।
Q14. A car moves at a constant 6 m s⁻¹ for 2 minutes, then accelerates at 1 m s⁻² for 6 s. Find the displacement in the 2 min 6 s.
Phase 1: 6 m s⁻¹ × 120 s = 720 m. Phase 2: u = 6, a = 1, t = 6 ⇒ s = ut + ½at² = 6 × 6 + ½ × 1 × 36 = 36 + 18 = 54 m. Total displacement = 720 + 54 = 774 m. (On a v-t graph this is a rectangle plus a small trapezium.)Phase 1: 6 m s⁻¹ × 120 s = 720 m। Phase 2: u = 6, a = 1, t = 6 ⇒ s = ut + ½at² = 6 × 6 + ½ × 1 × 36 = 36 + 18 = 54 m।
Q15. Cars A and B start from rest with constant acceleration. A reaches 5 m s⁻¹ in 5 s; B reaches 3 m s⁻¹ in 10 s. Find each car's displacement in its stated interval. A 5 s में 5 m s⁻¹; B 10 s में 3 m s⁻¹।
a_A = 5/5 = 1 m s⁻²; a_B = 3/10 = 0.3 m s⁻². Displacement = ½(u + v)t (u = 0). A: ½ × 5 × 5 = 12.5 m (in 5 s). B: ½ × 3 × 10 = 15 m (in 10 s). On one graph, A's line is steeper (higher acceleration) but B's covers a slightly larger area over its longer time.a_A = 5/5 = 1 m s⁻²; a_B = 3/10 = 0.3 m s⁻²। Displacement = ½(u + v)t (u = 0)। A: ½ × 5 × 5 = 12.5 m (5 s में)। B: ½ × 3 × 10 = 15 m (10 s में)। एक ही graph पर A की line steeper (ज़्यादा acceleration) पर B अपने लम्बे time में थोड़ा बड़ा area तय करती है।
Q16. The minute hand of a clock (length 7 cm) between 6:00 and 7:30. Find its (i) distance, (ii) displacement, (iii) speed, (iv) velocity. इसकी (i) distance, (ii) displacement, (iii) speed, (iv) velocity निकालो।
Time = 90 min = 1.5 revolutions. Circumference = 2πr = 2 × (22/7) × 7 = 44 cm. (i) Distance = 1.5 × 44 = 66 cm. After 1.5 turns the tip is diametrically opposite the start, so (ii) displacement = diameter = 2 × 7 = 14 cm.(iii) speed = 66 cm ÷ 90 min ≈ 0.73 cm/min (≈ 0.012 cm s⁻¹). (iv) velocity = 14 cm ÷ 90 min ≈ 0.16 cm/min, directed from the start toward the diametrically opposite point.Time = 90 min = 1.5 revolutions। Circumference = 2πr = 2 × (22/7) × 7 = 44 cm। (i) Distance = 1.5 × 44 = 66 cm। 1.5 चक्कर बाद सुई का सिरा start के व्यास-विपरीत होता है, इसलिए (ii) displacement = diameter = 2 × 7 = 14 cm।(iii) speed = 66 cm ÷ 90 min ≈ 0.73 cm/min (≈ 0.012 cm s⁻¹)। (iv) velocity = 14 cm ÷ 90 min ≈ 0.16 cm/min, start से व्यास-विपरीत point की ओर।

Derive s = ½(u + v)t. The area under the v-t line is a trapezium with parallel sides u and v and height t. Area of a trapezium = ½ × (sum of parallel sides) × height = ½(u + v)t = s.s = ½(u + v)t निकालो।
Derive s = vt − ½at². Start from s = ut + ½at² and substitute u = v − at (from v = u + at): s = (v − at)t + ½at² = vt − at² + ½at² = vt − ½at².s = vt − ½at² निकालो। s = ut + ½at² से शुरू करो और u = v − at (v = u + at से) रखो: s = (v − at)t + ½at² = vt − at² + ½at² = vt − ½at²।

1. When is the athlete's displacement (running back and forth on a straight track) zero, and what is the distance then?
Displacement is zero when the athlete returns to the exact starting point. The total distance is then not zero — it is twice the one-way length she covered.[NCERT p.51]Displacement [NCERT p.51]
2. Does the fuel used by a vehicle depend on total distance or on displacement?
On the total distance travelled — the engine does work over every metre of the path, regardless of where you finally end up. Displacement ignores the path, so it cannot decide fuel use.[NCERT p.51]Total distance travelled [NCERT p.51]

Total distance = 400 km, total time = 5 h ⇒ average speed = 400/5 = 80 km h⁻¹. You return to the start, so displacement = 0 ⇒ average velocity = 0.[NCERT p.53]Total distance = 400 km, total time = 5 h ⇒ average speed = 400/5 = 80 km h⁻¹। [NCERT p.53]

(i) When the object moves in a straight line in one direction without turning back (then distance = magnitude of displacement). (ii) When the object returns to its starting point (displacement = 0, but distance ≠ 0).[NCERT p.53](i) [NCERT p.53]
Previous-Year Style Questions (PYQ)पिछले सालों जैसे सवाल (PYQ)
PYQ 1. Differentiate distance and displacement (2 marks).distance
Distance is the total path length — a scalar, always positive, depends on the path. Displacement is the shortest (straight-line) change in position — a vector, has direction, and can be zero or negative.
PYQ 2. A car accelerates uniformly from 18 km h⁻¹ to 36 km h⁻¹ in 5 s. Find the acceleration and the distance covered (3 marks).
u = 18 km h⁻¹ = 5 m s⁻¹, v = 36 km h⁻¹ = 10 m s⁻¹, t = 5 s. a = (10 − 5)/5 = 1 m s⁻². s = ut + ½at² = 5 × 5 + ½ × 1 × 25 = 25 + 12.5 = 37.5 m.u = 18 km h⁻¹ = 5 m s⁻¹, v = 36 km h⁻¹ = 10 m s⁻¹, t = 5 s। a = (10 − 5)/5 = 1 m s⁻²। s = ut + ½at² = 5 × 5 + ½ × 1 × 25 = 25 + 12.5 = 37.5 m।
PYQ 3. Why is uniform circular motion called accelerated motion? (2 marks)
Because although the speed is constant, the direction of the velocity changes continuously. A change in the direction of velocity is a change in velocity, and any change in velocity means acceleration.
PYQ 4. Draw a velocity-time graph for an object moving with uniform acceleration, and show how it gives (i) acceleration and (ii) displacement (5 marks).Uniform acceleration से चलती वस्तु का velocity-time graph बनाओ, और दिखाओ कि इससे (i) acceleration और (ii) displacement कैसे मिलते हैं (5 marks)।
The v-t graph is a straight slanted line rising from u to v over time t (see Figure 4.5 above). (i) Its slope = (v − u)/t = the acceleration. (ii) The area under the line (a rectangle u·t plus a triangle ½·t·(v − u)) = the displacement s = ut + ½at². These are exactly the graphical origins of the equations of motion.v-t graph एक सीधी तिरछी line है जो time t में u से v तक चढ़ती है (ऊपर Figure 4.5 देखो)। (i) इसका slope = (v − u)/t = acceleration। (ii) line के नीचे का area (एक rectangle u·t और एक triangle ½·t·(v − u)) = displacement s = ut + ½at²।
